Lightning Boat Grant Program
The International Lightning Class Association boat grant program is designed to fund young sailors who want to experience the high level of competition offered by the ILCA. In it's second year, the ILCA grant program awards young teams a competitive boat plus substantial regatta expenses for a season of racing.
Last year, four separate teams, led by Bob King, Bobby Martin, Guy Tawney, and Stephen Waldie, received boats and funding through the program. In 2008, the program has grown to support 6 teams led by skippers Dan Perkins, Clinton Hayes, Nick Farina, Justin Coplin, Will Brown, and Collin Kirby.

Early Bird Regatta
Lightning Boat Grant Program
Me and my team have just finished our first Lightning regatta with our grant boat. It is Nickels hull number 15189 and is in great condition. We have already been given a set of used North sails, 3 spins, and a slightly used Vermont Sailing Partners jib. We are also set to receive a new set of Quantum sails for big regattas. So far, Bill Fastiggi has shown us how to rig the boat up in Vermont, and Brian Hayes from North Sails helped us out when we arrived for the Early Bird at Cedar Point Yacht Club with tuning and rig set up on the water.
