Starcks go 1-2 at the Lake Erie Districts

The Lake Erie districts were held on June 20th and 21st at the Buffalo Canoe Club. Twenty boats registered for the event, which was co-chaired by Debbie Probst and Monica Jones. Saturday morning brought clear skies and a breeze from the southwest.

David Starck hosted a skippers meeting at 9:15. This was really the most moving part of the weekend. To begin the meeting David asked that we all take a moment of silence to reflect on the life of George Fisher. George, we all know, had a large part in making the class what it is today. Personally, I considered George a friend. A lawyer himself, he had provided me with valuable guidance as I went from undergraduate to attorney. As the competitors stood and reflected in silence I realized how lucky I was to have known George.

Once the racing got going the old crew from the Canoe Club was up to their usual tricks. The breeze was light, about 5-7 knots. Larry MacDonald, with two juniors started of hot with two firsts. Jody (Swanson) Starck had two fourths, David Starck two fifths, Debbie Probst a 7-3. The third race the Starck family made their move, going 1-2. Probst won the fourth race.
