2008 Skaneateles 1-day Lightning Regatta
Twenty-one boats braved the weather brought along by tropical storm Hanna to compete in the 2008 edition of the Skaneateles One Day Lightning Regatta. Two races were completed on the stormy Saturday... well, it looks like one race was completed by all of the boats, and the second completed by a few. Anyone who sailed care to comment on all those DNF's? Dan Pope was victorious over this competitive fleet posting a 1,3 scoreline. Dick Hallagan and Jack Jones were hot on Dan's heels finishing 2nd and 3rd with scores of 4,1 and 2,4 respectively. Though I wasn't there, I can say with confidence that Skaneateles Country Club and Lightning Fleet 1 probably put on another great regatta. I'm guessing that this was a piece of cake for them compared to hosting the 70th Anniversary Regatta earlier this summer where well over 100 boats showed up. Central New York Lightning Season continues this fall with a few more 1-day regattas. Hopefully no more hurricanes or tropical storms though.

Reason for DNF's.....fog, much fog. Visibility was 50 yards or so shortly after the first weather leg of the 2nd race. An interesting experience, but a fun regatta - as they all are at Skaneateles !
absolutely crazy conditions. Justin Demore sailed Blue Jacket well.
